Camping with children

Good morning to you wherever you are. As for me, 530 mountain time, I am lying in my tent with a four year old and two year old nestled up tightly on each side of me.

Yesterday, we arrived on scene and commenced in setting up base camp. Followed by wilderness exploration, scavenger hunts, taming wild beasts and even a bouncy house. Yes and true. And it all took place here in the San Juan mountains where the aspen leaves are changing as fast as the decreasing temperatures at night.

As I was lying there, I thought it was time to expand this blog to include camping with children. While I hope to make it all inclusive for newborns and older children, the intent is to offer creative ideas to make camping fun for children of any ages (including daddy’s). Eventually, the blogs will include night time adventures, navigating, meal preparation, site selection and the list goes on.

I truly believe the outdoors provide an excellent educational opportunity for children of all ages. I also believe passionately that our children are tomorrow’s stewards of our natural resources. So, if I have not put you to sleep yet, let’s tighten up our backpacks and have some fun. Because as we say in our family, if we are not having fun in the outdoors then we are doing something wrong. Stay tuned and ✌️

Happily married to an absolute dream come true woman, Ami. Who has blessed me with two absolute dream come true children, Orion and Cassi. Now my goal everyday is to do life with my children. Whether I go shopping or in the kitchen cooking, my children will be right there with me. Talking through my actions, involving them in decision making and understanding options available. Pitching tents, trails to hike and adventures to come, they will be my side.
