One of the many places Orion and I frequent is the library. We start off with three puzzles, a game of chess (neither of us know how to play), then off to the kitchen. There I sit requesting onion strawberry shakes, French fries with a side of cantaloupe and two eggs. Unusual menu preparation continues for half an hour, with me making up unusual requests and Orion delivering. Next we transition into the large play room. Here we build with blocks, potato head, puppets and whatever else floats our boat. Eventually crashing on our backs as best buddies.
See what happened here, 45-60 minutes of free playing, creative and imaginative. Making our own rules to laugh to. Me acting like a crazy man, rolling on the floor and taking delight in every dish he prepares.
Moral of this story, I am there for my son, to engage with him, to play in his world mentally and physically. Yes, some adults walk by looking at me acting the fool, but guess what?? Orion is happy, daddy is happy and that should be the goal for all daddy’s.
